The German Embassy’s Buddy Bear starts the new year with his #StaySafe look! Did you know that the “Buddy Bear Berlin Show” was first launched in Berlin in 2001? The raised arms of the Buddy Bear communicate a friendly attitude and optimism, creating a positive atmosphere for the people of Berlin, as well as for many German missions abroad!2020 was a year that we all will certainly remember for a very long time, as it was dominated by the Covid-19 pandemic and its effects. But the Buddy Bears would not be the Buddy Bears if they did not stretch their arms in the air full of optimism. And indeed, a lot of good things happened in the Buddy Bear world in 2020:… The United Buddy Bears exhibition was opened at the Tierpark Berlin. 146 individually designed bears representing 146 countries of the United Nations have taken up residence among tigers, zebras, and penguins in Europe’s largest zoological garden … To mark the cultural Year of Friendship between Germany and its neighbor to the north, Denmark, the Goethe-Institut Copenhagen collaborated with Danish schools to hold a Buddy Bear competition … To mark the 20th anniversary of UN Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, Security, a special project has been realized in Bujumbura, Burundi’s capital. Five young artists designed their Buddy Bear, which was commissioned by the German Embassy in Bujumbura.
