The last span of the Padma Bridge

The last span of the Padma Bridge, the biggest of its kind in Bangladesh, constructed by China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group Co., Ltd, was installed on 11 Dec 2020, marking the completion of the bridge’s 6.15-km main structure above the water. After the closure of the spans, the bridge deck construction will start and it is expected to be completed by the end of the next year. By then, the history of ferrying residents between the 21 districts of southern Bangladesh and the capital Dhaka will end for good. The original seven-to-eight hours of crossing the river will be shortened to 10 minutes, and more than 80 million population will benefit from the bridge.
